Bentley OpenComms Designer Help

Bentley OpenComms Copper

OpenComms Copper is an interactive program that empowers the user to engineer, document and manage all aspects of their copper network. It simplifies the design process by tracking and developing a database for each copper pair in the network. Engineering data is quickly calculated and all data for various reports is accessible and printable.

Before using the Copper module, a spec file must be created. This specfile will contain the devices and equipment that will be used in routing the Copper Network. The sample specfile that ships with OpenComms Designer is called fbrequip.asc—this specfile contains devices that pertain to both Fiber design and Copper design. This file may be edited so that only the desired equipment is available for design.

The next two sections detail the process of setting up this spec file. There are two categories of devices that must be setup:

  1. OSP – Common devices—those devices that can be shared by both Fiber and Copper Networks.
  2. OSP – Copper devices—those devices that are only applicable to Copper Network design.
